Pardon My Grammar

I think there are some other teachers out there that will testify to this fact: Teaching made my grammar suck. I was once proud of my spelling/grammar/punctuation skills. After reading over 30 spelling tests and assignments, I would begin to rationalize certain spelling errors. I would have silent conversations in my mind that went something like: "Why ISN'T there a 'ch' at the beginning of the word truck. We say 'chruck' right?" After a year or two of making those excuses for my kids, I began to question all sorts of grammatical rules. Now it is nearly impossible to remember all the rules I knew before. Certain bad habits have been sneaking into my writing vocabulary. If it bothers you that I misplace a comma or vowel, please kindly excuse my mistakes. It is a sacrifice that I made to be a better teacher I suppose. It bothers me sometimes. I'll read through a post after hitting "publish" and I'll see a mistake and it will bug me, but not enough to change it (most of the time). I just figure that everyone knows what I mean and they'll forgive me.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is please don't judge me and think I'm a complete imbecile. I try. Thank you.

Oh, and please don't leave a rude comment about how many mistakes I made. I don't know you and you don't know me. I have deleted said rude comment. :) Have a nice day.

That's so funny! It makes sense how you would start justifying for your students. Myself... I am a complete tard when it comes to anything educational. Seriously. I was a horrible student in every single area, except lunch and recess. No joke. I have no idea how to use a comma, I can spell most of the time, I use way too many !!! and ??!? and ..., but that's just my style. If I see a mistake on someone's site I really don't mind, that's their business. If I see a mistake on MINE... that's a different story. I freak out in fact and immediately change it. I don't know why, it just bugs me. Other people never bug me though, mistake-away!!

Unbelieveable someone left a rude comment. Jerks!

I completely do the same thing! I don't understand this language sometime. I agree, blogging should be excluded from grammar and puncutation rules!

Being a freelance editor, I feel pressured to write everything perfectly and I hope the same as you: that people don't judge me if I make a mistake!

Amen. I see things. Sometimes I notice, but I make the same mistakes. Can't we all just get along??? :)

p.s. I did make that one comment about Kendall's typo, but only because Kelly mentioned it first. Does that count? :0

Yes! Blogging is exempt from any rules! I totally agree.

Jenny - I didn't even notice that you pointed out a mistake on their blog. Haha! I'm totally not bashing you for it.

I totally agree. If you've read my blog you would know that I don't follow grammar rules. Mine is awful. But to me I try to get it out and on the blog before one of my kids starts screaming for who knows what. By the time I notice errors who cares at least I made a new post.

Just think of it that there is a better language when we get to Heaven ;-) I always struggle with different sets of commas, punctuation, meanings behind words and other worldly things of this sort.... Learning to do English is great ;-) I love other languages as well though. One of my favourites is Russian because War and Piece is best read in that language. I wish I could do French ;-)

I think the internet is just exempt from those rules in general. Instant messaging pretty much killed the English language as we know it.
