San Diego Famiy Trip

Back in June, we packed up the car and bikes for a 5-day stay in San Diego, CA. We did so much in those 5 days and still could have stayed longer. We're anxious to go back someday and do it again. Here's how we spent our time in lots of pictures and a few words.

DAY 1

We checked into our Hotel on a Sunday night. We got the kids suite that included a set of bunk beds. Total success at a good night's sleep. The kids were locked away with their own bed and tv so we could get lots of rest. Before we checked in, we headed to the Mormon Battalion Museum in Old Town. A true highlight of our trip. This place is COOL! Super interactive and more just just a tour. The missionaries there were so great and our kids were allowed to run and jump on things without us having to worry.  They even took this cute family picture for us!  Awesome!

DAY 2
Sea World & Evolution Fast Food

Before we left, we thought we'd look up some Hazel-friendly dining options and Evolution Fast Food caught my eye.  It's vegan fast food and SO yummy.  It was fresh, delicous and tricked Cannon (our harshest critic) into thinking he was consuming chicken nuggets.  Score.  After we finished our hamburgers, chocolate shakes and french fries, we came out to the lovely note placed on our car "don't drink and drive".  Thanks random homeless person in San Diego, for that pertinent reminder.

DAY 3
Coronado Island, Beach & Padres Game

We started out each day at Balboa park walking and running the beautiful gardens.  Then we returned to the hotel for showers and breakfast.  This day we headed to the gorgeous Coronado Island.  My favorite part of the whole trip.  We parked in front of this beautiful beach front home and unloaded our bikes to ride along the shops.  I found the cutest little paper shop and bought two pretty little notebooks before hitting the beach for a little while.  That night we went to Sammy's Pizza for a vegan cheese pizza with a side of kalamata olives (a favorite) for Hazel (pictured below) and some yummy food for all.  We had a blast at the baseball game.  We sat in the nosebleed section until the kids got restless.  Then there was a little playground right in the stadium that we played on until about the 8th inning.  We met the nicest couple on our trolley ride to the hotel who gave us some tips and helped us find the little baseball Cannon lost on the ride.  Thanks sweet couple!  Oh, and I can't forget our favorite quote from this day.  On our way to Sammy's, we encountered a pair of homeless ladies pushing their shopping carts full of stuff.  Jarom (in his usual friendly way) said "hi!" and the lady immediately chastised him.  She said "We're in DISTRESS!  Can't you see that we are in DISTRESS?!?"  Well, it wasn't apparent but I guess walking down the street without a home would be distressing.  It caught us off guard but we say "I'm in distress" at least once a day now.  Hilarious!

DAY 4
Sea World, Temple, Seaport Village & Ponce's

I just have to say that this was a great day.  Ponce's had the BEST guacamole.  Yum!

DAY 5
Mission Beach, CBW & Seals

The seals were smelly but cool to watch.  They would mostly lay on the beach but once in a while one would slip into the ocean and playfully bounce in the waves.  We got yummy food at CBW - Crazy Bowls and Wraps.  Then we rode our bikes along mission beach boardwalk and saw the cool beach houses.  It was kind of a rainy, cold day so it was perfect to just be chill and not get in the water.

Oh, man.  This was one of the best vacations ever.  I loved being with my family and I really loved running in such a beautiful place.  There is so much to do we were never bored.  I think we'll make it back soon - at least for some guacamole and vegan food!  Thanks for the great time, San Diego!
