The Golden Anniversary

Cannon and I flew to California last Wednesday to help Jarom's family prepare for Grammy and Papa's 50th wedding anniversary.

Grammy and Papa are two of my favorite people. Grammy is the sweetest, most selfless person I know. I talk to her at least once a week to let her know what we are up to. She worries about everyone constantly and never ceases to amaze with her generous spirit. I've known Grammy for six years, but I feel like I've known her my whole life. Papa loves his family. He is funny and smart. He always makes sure everyone is properly fed. I remember the first time I met him, we were at a restaurant and he ordered me an extra salad just to make sure I had enough to eat. He is sweet and kind.

It was so great to be able to celebrate these two!

It wasn't all work. We got pedicures, shopped and played with Cannon's two cousins.

You've got to have the classic bathtub with your cousins picture!

Jarom joined us on Saturday just before the party. It was perfect! We ate a delicious Italian meal of lasagne, antipasta salad, meatballs, and some yummy bread. There was a slide show and many touching tributes from friends and family.

The toast

I love this one! They are so cute!

Thanks to Cannon, they had some fingerprint art on the cake! Ooops! Mommy was busy taking pictures.

It was so fun to see relatives and friends. We are happy to be home now, especially after missing our flight yesterday and hanging out in the Vegas airport for a while. Thanks to the Becars for letting us crash at their place and for being such a great family! We love you!

Girl Stuff

McKilee asked me to do her hair for the 9th grade night dance. She came over the night before so I could practice. I asked her if she wouldn't mind if I snapped a few pictures to figure out some settings on my camera. She was a great model! Of course, she's so cute and doesn't take a single bad picture. It was nice to get to know my camera a little better. It's also nice to take pictures of a stationary model instead of an active toddler! She looked gorgeous for the dance. I was a chapperone with Jarom and I don't think she left the dance floor once. Thanks again, McKilee!

P.s. Mandi, Mckilee's mom, makes the gorgeous flowers for hairdos. They are absolutely beautiful! If you are looking for something special, contact her!Link

Things That Grow

Cannon's Hair
(I just can't get enough of his cute curls!)

Baby Bump

Salsa Garden
My preschoolers planted beans this week, and they simultaneously planted our starters for the garden. It's multitasking at it's finest.

(Yeah, I know peas aren't a typical ingredient in salsa, but it's the only photo I've taken of produce lately.)

My happiness with how near we are to SPRING!

Sewing Projects

Maybe it's the extra estrogen pumping through my system, but, I've been itching to sew. It all started when we tried to go shopping for baby girl stuff and I was disappointed when all the bedding sets were so, ummm, pink. Then I had a dream one night of my perfect little nursery for this baby girl. It was beautiful and not nearly as pink as the stuff in the stores. So, you know what they say... do it yourself? I pulled out my trusty old husqverna sewing machine that I must note is older than I am. It's from the late 70's and does 3 different stitches. That's it. But I love it because it does what I want it to.

Anyways, my mom helped me (a LOT) with this quilt. I still need to send it out for quilting. Don't look too closely, but I sure loved doing it! It's exactly what I had pictured and I can't wait to start finding things for the nursery to match it.
Then I decided to make some burp rags. These are actually cloth diapers that I added a few finishing touches to. They took me all day today. I'm so excited about how they turned out. I put one together last night and asked Jarom what he thinks. He said it's the cutest thing she'll ever throw up on. There's a little clue in there for you observant folk.

I hope that all this craftiness makes up for the things I didn't do today, like put pants on Cannon, or brush my hair and wash my makeup off from yesterday. Hey, you can't do it all, right?

Couple's Tag

I've been meaning to blog for a while now. Really, I have. I was tagged with this couples tag a few weeks ago, so it's a great excuse to fill in the blanks and feel like I contributed something to the blogging community. :)

What are your middle names?
David & Rae

How long have you been together?
Dated for a year, engaged for 6 months, married for almost 5 yrs. So, you do the math. My brain is tired!

How long did you know each other before you started dating?

We met during the Summer of 2002. We started officially dating in February of 2003.

Who asked who out?

He asked me out first.

Where was your first date?
We went to a play at the Scera Theater. It was actually he and I and like 6 other girls. I had to drive myself there and back. It's a long story.

How old are each of you?
I'm 25, Jarom is 28.

Whose siblings do/did you see the most?
Mine since his are mostly in Cali.

Do you have any children together?
Yes. Cannon and baby girl.

What about pets?

Once we tried to have a tree frog. His name was puppy. He died. :(

Did you go to the same school?

No, and it's probably a good thing. We decided we would not have been friends in high school since I was a nerd and he was a smart football player. I tried to tell him that I was cool, but he doesn't believe that choir nerds can be cool. Rude!

Are you from the same home town?

Not even close.

Who is the smartest?

I will say that Jarom is smarter. He knows more things than I do. But, I study and test better than he does. He doesn't really care about grades like I do. As long as he passes, he's okay with it.

Who is the most sensitive?

Definitely me, but sometimes Jarom gets his feelings hurt.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?

Costco.

Who does the cooking?

I do. Jarom can make a wicked shepherd's pie. It's really good!

Who is more social?

Hmmm. That's a tough one. I have more close friends than Jarom does. But, in a crowd, Jarom is definitely the entertainer.

Who is the neat-freak?

Jarom is! I don't have a neat bone in my body. I have to work really hard at keeping things organized. He calls me a shover. If I can't see that something is messy, then it doesn't bother me. I'm working on it!

Who is the more stubborn?

I am definitely the stubborn one. If we have a disagreement, he is always the one to make peace first. It makes me feel like a little kid, but it's a good thing he's more mature than me.

Who hogs the bed?

You would think that Jarom does, since he's much larger than I am. But, many times I have found him sleeping on the floor as I am sprawled out over much of the bed. He actually likes sleeping on the floor. He's also more of a snuggler than I am. He likes to invade my space and I require lots of space these days.

Who wakes up earlier?

Jarom

Who has the bigger family?

We are both the oldest of 6 kids. So, it's a tie. But I have lots more cousins and aunts and uncles than he does.

Do you get flowers often?

No, but sometimes he brings home something better, like ice cream.

How do you spend the holidays?

We try to evenly split them between Utah and California. It's fun that way!

Who is more jealous?

I don't know.

How long did it take to get serious?

I don't really know. A month of dating? We started talking about marriage after a month. I felt like I was too young, so I broke up with him. He gave me some space and we just decided to have fun. Then, I broke up with him twice more. The last time was for 3 months and I was miserable. I was also ashamed so it took me a while to call him again. I thought he would hate me forever. I'm glad he was patient with me while I took my time to grow up and decide that getting married was okay to do. He's great.

Who does/did the laundry?

I mostly do. But, it's my very least favorite household chore. Sometimes he will help me fold and put it away. He always puts his shirts away since I can't reach the top of the closet.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?

Ummm, I don't know what this means. It's funny, but I think we both get irritated when we see the other one being taken advantage of. We are both the type of poeple to never say no. Jarom is super self-less and will spend hours of his time doing other people's jobs and it makes me crazy. He thinks I let myself get trampled on and he says I need to grow a backbone. We are very similar in that way, I guess.

Who’s better with the computer?

Jarom knows more useful stuff. He can fix our computer and he's pretty smart that way. I can do more with programs and stuff. I can do more designy craftiness with it.

Who drives when you are together?

We both do. We both hate driving. But, if the weather is bad, Jarom always does because I'm more panicky.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Hawaii, or Mexico?

Who has the worst temper?

I get irritated more often. Jarom is more even-tempered. I've only seen him lose it once and it wasn't directed towards me (thank heaven!). He punched a hole in the wall. It was not pretty.

I tag, ummm, whoever wants to share this info. about their hunny.
